Sigiriya, often hailed as the "Eighth Wonder of the World," is an awe-inspiring ancient rock fortress and palace complex located in the central Matale District of Sri Lanka. Rising dramatically from the plains, this massive column of rock, nearly 200 meters (656 feet) high, is a testament to ancient Sri Lankan engineering, urban planning, and artistry.
Sigiriya's unique blend of natural beauty, historical intrigue, and extraordinary architectural and artistic achievements makes it one of Sri Lanka's most visited and iconic cultural sites. After King Kasyapa's death, it served as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century before being abandoned. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982.
• Morning: Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport. transferred to Sigiriya (approx. 3-4 hours drive).
• Afternoon: Check into your hotel in Sigiriya. After a short rest, embark on a climb of Sigiriya Rock Fortress (Lion Rock), a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Daily rituals (Pujas) are performed by monks, including offerings of flowers, food, and chanting, at dawn, noon, and evening. The relic itself is encased in seven golden caskets, and while not directly visible to the public, devotees can glimpse the caskets during these ceremonial times. The annual Esala Perahera in July/August is a grand festival where a replica of the relic casket is paraded through the streets on a ceremonially adorned elephant, accompanied by dancers, drummers, and fire performers
