Sigiriya: The Lion Rock Fortress – A UNESCO World Heritage Site
Sigiriya, often hailed as the "Eighth Wonder of the World," is an awe-inspiring ancient rock fortress and palace complex located in the central Matale District of Sri Lanka. Rising dramatically from the plains, this massive column of rock, nearly 200 meters (656 feet) high, is a testament to ancient Sri Lankan engineering, urban planning, and artistry.
Sigiriya's unique blend of natural beauty, historical intrigue, and extraordinary architectural and artistic achievements makes it one of Sri Lanka's most visited and iconic cultural sites. After King Kasyapa's death, it served as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century before being abandoned. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982.

Kandy & Transfer to Colombo - Historic City to Modern Capital
Founded by British explorer Samuel Baker in 1846, Nuwara Eliya served as a sanatorium and hill country retreat for British civil servants and planters during the colonial era. Its climate, reminiscent of England, allowed them to indulge in pastimes like fox hunting, polo, and golf, and it quickly became a hub for tea production, a legacy that continues to define the region today. While it experiences a monsoon-like cloudy season, it generally has no pronounced dry season, with mean annual temperatures around 16°C (61°F). Frost can occur on winter nights, but the days warm up quickly. Colombo, located on the west coast of Sri Lanka, serves as the island nation's largest city and its commercial capital. While Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte is the administrative capital, Colombo remains the bustling heart of business, finance, and culture, acting as the primary gateway for international visitors.
